Karola Pavone, Soprano (background image)

“Maria Bellacanta, the adorably clichéd primadonna played by Karola Pavone…was very proud of her interpretation of the Pamina aria, which Pavone did indeed sing with a wonderful sad tenderness.”

Karola Pavone is also active as an opera singer and has been seen on several operatic stages in the North Rhine-Westphalia region and as a member of the Children’s Opera of Cologne. She began her operatic training at the opera school of the University of Göteborg in Sweden, where she studied with Birgit-Louise Frandsen. There Ms. Pavone performed several roles onstage, including Sandman/Dewman in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, the Abbess in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and finally Ann Trulove in Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. She participated in opera master classes led by Johannes Martin Kränzle, René Massis, Fausto Nardi, Hedwig Fassbender, Edith Mathis and Edda Moser.

Back in Cologne, she had the opportunity to perform the role of Venus in Jacques Offenbach’s "Orphée aux enfers" under the direction of Igor Folwill (Theater Leverkusen, Theater Solingen and Remscheid). In Solingen and Remscheid she showed off her comedic abilities as, among other roles, Musetta in Puccini’s "La Bohème", also directed by Igor Folwill (Bergisch Symphony, conducted by head conductor Peter Kuhn).
Additionally, she had the chance to participate in the "Operettenolymp" production at Gelsenkirchen’s Musiktheater im Revier. The revue included excerpts from, among others, Strauss’s "Die Fledermaus", Zeller’s "Der Vogelhändler", and Paul Abraham’s "Viktoria und ihr Husar".
As the role of Death in "Death Knocks" by contemporary opera composer Christian Jost, Pavone was able to display her confident fluency in the field of new music. With its libretto by Woody Allen, “Death Knocks” was performed at the Cologne School of Music.

While a guest of the Cologne Opera Studio, she has performed on the stage of the Cologne Opera under the auspices of the Children’s Opera of Cologne both in the role of Deer/Gnome Schnitzerle in Marius Felix Lange’s "Schneewittchen" (Snow White) and as Maria Bellacanta in Peter Lund’s "Hexe Hillary geht in die Oper". In 2016, she will be back in Gelsenkirchen for "Mission: possible". From 2016 she will be a Soloist at Gießen Opera House, where she will appear in many important roles of her fach.
